Delegated act expected 2029
Mattresses close out the six product groups explicitly named in the first ESPR Working Plan. They're a notoriously hard-to-recycle waste stream - mixed foam, springs and textile covers make disassembly and material recovery difficult, which is exactly the kind of problem a passport's disassembly and material data is meant to address.
What a mattresses passport is expected to cover
- Material composition: foam type, spring construction, textile cover
- Durability data
- Substances of concern, including flame retardants
- Recyclability and disassembly instructions for material recovery
- Availability of take-back schemes
